  Frederick Linsmeyer • October 7, 2009 • Local, News

After a lengthy wait, Google Maps streetview is now available in select Canadian cities. Vancouver, Banff, Calgary, Kitchener, Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, and Halifax are now viewable online including most major and side streets. Canada finally joins the United States, United Kingdom, France, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and other European nations who use the streetview service.

Google Maps streetview isĀ  great tool when trying to confirm a restaurant location or want to see if there’s bank or other point of interest near your destination.

Inuyasha The Final Act

  Frederick Linsmeyer • October 3, 2009 • Anime

Finally, the long and tortuous journey to recover the remaining shards of the Shikon Jewel is upon fans of the Inuyasha anime series. The show ended without a proper finale leaving demons and humans alike wondering what happened with Inuyasha, Kagome and their quest to stop Naraku from using the gem’s mystical powers.

Starting October 3rd, and running for every Saturday this month, episodes from Inuyasha The Final Act will be streamed, for free, online. Unfortunately, the video stream is currently unavailable for Canadians or anyone else outside of the United States.

Inuyasha The Final Act rejoins half-demon Inuyasha and modern day Japanese student Kagome, along with their friends, to collect the remaining shards of Shikon Jewel and take on the evil demon Naraku.

Chicago

The International Olympic Committee announced today who would be hosting the Olympic Games in 2016. Unfortunately, the city of Chicago, which was believed to make it to the final round of voting against Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Tokyo, Japan; and Madrid, Spain, had been dropped after the first vote. Not even presentations from the President of the United States, Barack Obama, and various other celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey, were able to woo the sporting organization.

Rio de Janeiro has been chosen to host 2016 Olympics, making it the first time the event has ever been held in South America.

Vancouver Canucks

It’s that time of year again, when the weather turns cooler and the gray clouds bring everyone back inside their homes, to the bars and to the ice rink. The 2009-2010 hockey season starts today and the Vancouver Canucks are in Calgary playing their division rivals, the Flames.

The puck drops at 7:00 PM PDT, but there will be some fresh faces out on the ice tonight. Christian Ehrhoff and Mathieu Schneider who play defense, right-wing forwards Mikhail Samuelsson and Sergei Shirokov and goaltender Andrew Raycroft, are all new to the west coast. The quest for Lord Stanley’s cup is on!

The Canucks play in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday before returning Monday to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets for the Vancouver home opener.
