Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster used his $14 million USDplayer option to stay in the Windy City for the 2012 season.

The Sechelt, BC native finished last season with 10 wins and 14 losses, while reaching the 200 innings mark. Dempster reached his highest ERA in four seasons at 4.80 after a dismal April with an ERA of 9.58 in six starts.

After speaking with Theo Epstein, the Cubs’ new president of baseball operations, Dempster announced his excitement in continuing to play with the Cubs and is looking forward to helping his team become World Series contenders.
