Another Vancouver landmark is up for redevelopment. The Sears store, formerly an Eaton’s, on the corner of Robson and Howe Streets will be undergoing an overhaul to make way for yet another department store with additional retail and office space.

The upscale Seattle-based chain, Nordstrom, will occupy three floors of the renovated structure. An expansion of the Pacific Centre mall will see the arrival of a single floor with 10 to 12 new stores. Also included are four floors of office space.

The modernist-inspired white box of a building, originally built for the defunct department chain Eaton’s, will receive a massive facelift. Gone will be the blank windowless walls, replaced with gleaming glass to create an open and more inviting appearance. Natural light will be filtered inside through the use of two large interior atriums.

Construction is expected to begin November 2012 and conclude in an estimated 18 to 24 months. Nordstrom will open its doors in the spring of 2015.
