When Nintendo shared images from the Wii U re-release of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, we only got to see a brief glimpse of what was in store. Now that E3 is here, Nintendo produced a nearly two-minute trailer giving us a greater view of the enhanced game. Gone are the days of mindlessly sailing between islands — you can now speed across the water by holding the A button. While the graphics look nice, it seems they should have left the bloom in the water (algae bloom, okay, that was terrible) and not in the sky which gives the outdoor scenes a pale haze.

Aside from that, improvements include:

  • Re-done graphics at 1080p for those with HD televisions.
  • Better inventory management and maps with the Wii U GamePad.
  • The “Tingle Bottle” lets players connect through Miiverse to share comments and screen shots that will appear on friends’ shores akin to a message in a bottle.
  • The Pictograph Box can hold more pictures which can be shared through the player’s Miiverse.
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD can be played on the Wii U GamePad if someone else is using the television.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is expected for release sometime in October 2013.
