What’s better than one anime film? How about four films in one? How about four films by some of Japan’s best in anime? Eleven Arts and Sentai Filmworks have announced dates for the North American premiere the film anthology Short Peace.

Conceived by Katsuhiro Otomo, best known for Akira, Memories and Steamboy, Short Peace is a collection of four story segments. In Possessions (Tsukumo), a vagabond explores an abandoned shrine that isn’t really empty. Directed by Shuhei Morita (Coicent, Kakurenbo), Possessions was nominated for an Academy Award® 2013. A royal family is terrorized by a red demon in Gambo, until a white bear comes to the family’s aid. Gambo is directed by Hiroaki Ando (Five Numbers!). Farewell to Weapons pits humans and robots in an all out futuristic assault in the ruins of Tokyo for survival. Farewell to Weapons is directed by Hajime Katoki (Mobile Suit Gundam). Combustible, directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, returns to Japan in the past through a saga of love and tragedy caught between the flames.

Short Peace will appear in 45 theatres throughout the United States on April 18th, 2014 while Canadian theatres are scheduled for early May 2014. A complete list of participating locations is available on Eleven Arts’ web site.

Short Peace was originally released in Japan on July 20th, 2013.
