The world of the VRMMORPG is one step closer to becoming reality. IBM Japan is sponsoring the creation a new video game based on the popular Sword Art Online light novel series by Reki Kawahara titled Sword Art Online: The Beginning.

A web site is online looking for volunteers to join alpha testing of the game. 208 lucky winners selected by lottery can attend an undisclosed location in Tokyo on March 28th and 30th to demo the Nerve Gear-like headset.

Three-dimensional copies of the winners will be scanned into a digital environment running IBM Cloud Services.

Sword Art Online voice actors Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Haruka Tomatsu and Kanae Itō reprise their roles for Kirito, Asuna and Yui respectively.
