2009 – A look back

  Frederick Linsmeyer • December 27, 2009 • Site Information

As another year comes to a close, I take a look back at all that has happened in 2009 (in relation to what was posted). This year I actually started putting more attention and effort into this site, upgrading to WordPress from the previous custom application STARDBCMS and providing (almost) weekly updates. Since all this hard work was performed in February, I’ll omit January from this recap.

Vancouver Canucks

It’s that time of year again, when the weather turns cooler and the gray clouds bring everyone back inside their homes, to the bars and to the ice rink. The 2009-2010 hockey season starts today and the Vancouver Canucks are in Calgary playing their division rivals, the Flames.

The puck drops at 7:00 PM PDT, but there will be some fresh faces out on the ice tonight. Christian Ehrhoff and Mathieu Schneider who play defense, right-wing forwards Mikhail Samuelsson and Sergei Shirokov and goaltender Andrew Raycroft, are all new to the west coast. The quest for Lord Stanley’s cup is on!

The Canucks play in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday before returning Monday to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets for the Vancouver home opener.

Canucks 2009-2010 schedule available

  Frederick Linsmeyer • July 15, 2009 • Hockey

The new 2009-2010 season has the Vancouver Canucks starting off in Calgary against the Flames on October 1st followed by a stop in Denver to take on the Colorado Avalanche on the 3rd. The Vancouver team returns home on the 5th to play the Columbus Blue Jackets before the Montreal Canadiens fly in on 7th.

The Canucks will face off against all teams in the league at least once, so it will be an interesting season to say the least. The full schedule is available on the Canucks web site.

Vancouver Convention Centre

With just under a week left, Anime Evolution is getting ready for its seventh year and its first time being held at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Instead of being held under the famous white sails of Canada Place, anime fans get to strut their stuff in the new $883.2 million expansion just west of the existing facility.

The convention is being held June 12th – 14th and is expected to draw in close to 5,000 fans. Con-goers who have pre-registered can stop by Thursday from 4 PM to 9 PM to pick up their badges. For those who missed pre-registration, or care to pay up front, will be able to visit registration between the 8 AM to 9 PM on Friday, 8 AM to 8 PM on Saturday, and 8 AM to 2 PM on Sunday. Prices are available on the Anime Evolution web site.

Come on down and party all weekend while taking in the sights and sounds as throngs of anime fans take over Vancouver’s waterfront. See you there!

Anime Central 2009

I’m back from my trip to Chicago after attending Anime Central 2009. I took quite a few pictures and some video, but didn’t visit any panels and missed the Naruto photoshoots. Overall it was an interesting year, the dealers room was spectacular, and there were some really awesome costumes around. As usual, I missed the Roy cosplayer (I think it was the same one from last year), but all in all, it was pretty good.

I’ll have the photos uploaded shortly. There’s about 260 I have to sort through before they’re posted.

This was a pretty damn good weekend, minus the lines. Border, registration, dealers room, autographs, etc. Hooray for lines! Here’s Sakura-Con 2009.
