Salo back, Hamhuis out indefinitely

Defenceman Sami Salo returns to the Vancouver Canucks line up after recovering from a torn Achilles tendon while playing floor hockey back in July 2010. Salo played three games with the Canucks’ farm team, the Manitoba Moose before returning to Vancouver.

Dan Hamhuis is out indefinitely with a concussion after Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Getzlaf knocked the defenceman into the boards during a game on February 9th, 2011. The hit failed to draw a penalty.

Sami Salo injured again

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Sami Salo has suffered from yet another injury, this time being a torn Achilles tendon. Salo had apparently been playing floor hockey in his native Finland when the injury occurred.

The Vancouver Canucks released this information earlier today, but offered no further details. It’s believed that Salo will remain off the for at least a few months.

Salo has only played 68 games with the team last season in between a multitude of injuries, which affected his leg, groin, MCL and face.

Luongo on ice

A hairline rib fracture took Vancouver Canucks captain, Roberto Luongo, out of the team’s line up late Tuesday. Luongo was hit in the chest during third period in Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but the pain progressed through the last two games on Sunday and Tuesday.

It’s unknown when the Montreal native will return to the ice, however, Andrew Raycroft, will get the call to play against the Los Angeles Kings this Thursday.

Cory Schneider has been brought as Raycroft’s backup from the Canucks’ affiliate AHL team, the Manitoba Moose.

Daniel Sedin out due to injury

Vancouver Canucks forward Daniel Sedin, will be out 4 to 6 weeks after sustaining an injury during last Wednesday’s 7-1 win against the Montreal Canadiens.  During the second period, Sedin deflected a puck to his right foot which was first believed to be a deep bone bruise. However, that bruise later appeared to be broken bone.

Steve Bernier will play alongside Henrik Sedin and Alex Burrows while Daniel is recovering.
