Canucks clinch President’s Trophy

Frederick Linsmeyer • April 1, 2011 • Hockey

The Vancouver Canucks beat the visiting Los Angeles Kings with a score of 3-1 to clinch the President’s Trophy. This is the first time the Canucks have ever been awarded the prize for having the most points in the regular season.

Daniel Sedin, Ryan Kesler and Christian Ehrhoff all scored for Vancouver, while Kyle Clifford had Los Angeles’ only goal.

The Canucks have 113 points with four games left; the Philadelphia Flyers, first in the Eastern Conference, have no way of catching up to take the trophy. The Flyers were the only team to pose a threat in the standings.

Having the President’s Trophy also guarantees home ice advantage in the Stanley Cup playoffs, assuming the team advances through each round.
