Samuelsson and Sturm head to Florida

Just after Sami Salo slapped the game winning goal in a 3-2 overtime win for the Vancouver Canucks, the team announced a trade with the Florida Panthers. David Booth and Steve Reinprecht and a 2013 third round draft pick were exchanged for right winger Mikael Samuelsson and left winger Marco Sturm. Marco Sturm was acquired by the Canucks on July 1st, 2011 as a free agent.

Left winger David Booth had 23 goals with 17 assists in 82 games with the Panthers during the 2010-2011 season. The Detroit, Michigan native has played 309 games with the Florida Panthers.

Center Steve Reinprecht had 4 goals with 6 assists in 29 games with the Panthers, and 4 goals with 9 assists while playing 18 games for Adler Mannheim during the 2010-2011 season. Reinprecht, who is from Edmonton, Alberta, has played with the Los Angeles Kings, Colorado Avalanche, Phoenix Coyotes, Calgary Flames and the Florida Panthers.

Canucks acquire Chris Higgins and Maxim LaPierre

As the NHL trade deadline neared, the Vancouver Canucks nabbed two forwards for the final stretch before the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Chris Higgins arrives in Vancouver from the Florida Panthers in turn for defenceman Evan Oberg and 3rd round draft pick in 2013. The Smithtown, New York native played 48 games for the Panthers with 23 points.

Maxime LaPierre comes in from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for centre Joel Perrault and a 3rd round draft pick in 2012. The Saint-Leonard, Quebec native played 21 games for the Ducks with 3 points.

Canucks trade Bernier, Grabner, and pick for Ballard and Oreskovich

With the NHL entry draft under way, the Vancouver Canucks have made a few small changes to their team. The Canucks obtained defenceman Keith Ballard and prospect Victor Oreskovich from the Florida Panthers in a trade for forwards Steve Bernier and Michael Grabner along with a first round draft pick.

The Canucks next chance at a selection comes in the fourth round where they have the 115th, 145th, 172nd and 205th picks.

Ballard collected 28 points in 82 games while Oreskovich had picked up 6 points in 50 games with the Panthers this past season.

NHL trades for the Canucks

After the NHL trade deadline had come and gone, the Vancouver Canucks had not made any major player transactions.

Canucks GM, Mike Gillis, only made three acquisitions – Sean Zimmerman from Phoenix, and Yan Stastny from St. Louis for Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Mathieu Schneider respectively. Gillis also traded a third-round draft pick for defenseman Andrew Alberts of the Carolina Hurricanes.
