Following on the heels of the launch of the Wii U console in North America, Nintendo has announced the launch of a new lightweight Wii for Canada.

The aptly named Wii mini comes with a number of limitations: no Internet connectivity and no backwards compatibility with GameCube discs. Instead of the plain glossy white finish, the Wii mini is matte black with a red trim. The included Wii Remote and nunchuck accessory are red to match as well.

The smaller console is priced at $99.99 CAD and will be available for purchase on December 7th, 2012.

Wii mini is launching only in Canada; no mention of any other locations have been made.
