Earlier this month, Lego made available for purchase a collection of 16 minifigures from The Simpsons in honour of the animated series’ 25th anniversary.

In addition to the dysfunctional family of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson, other notable neighbours and residents of Springfield are up for grabs: Ned Flanders, Krusty the Clown, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Milhouse Van Houten, Nelson Muntz, Ralph Wiggum, Police Chief Clancy Wiggum, C. Montgomery Burns, Abe Simpson and everyone’s favourite cartoon cat and mouse: Itchy and Scratchy.

Each figure, available for purchase individually at $3.99 CAD, would be chosen at random in a sealed package — a blind box, if you will. I had to order a bunch and I did.

So today, my order of eight of the figures arrived in the mail. As I was opening the packages, I noticed a trend happening: one package would be one unique character, while the following package would contain Milhouse Van Houten. In a terrible string of luck I wound up with Lisa, Maggie, Chief Wiggum and Mr. Burns and then four Milhouse’s. As the blue-haired nerd would say: Everything’s coming up Milhouse.

The figures are the same size as regular Lego people, except the legs on the children aren’t the same flexible kind. Each figure comes with its own accessory or two — Milhouse has his copy of Biclops, Lisa has her saxophone, Maggie has Mr. Burns’ decrepit teddy bear Bobo, Mr. Burns carries a fishbowl with Blinky in it along with an inanimate carbon rod while Chief Wiggum holds a baton and megaphone. Lisa’s red dress is a piece of fabric that has to be included when she’s assembled for that extra detailed touch. Well played, Lego.

And yes, The Simpsons minifigures are still in stock on Lego’s web store.
