Most everyone saw it coming. Head coach John Tortorella and assistant coach Mike Sullivan were let go of their respective roles in a statement released today by the Vancouver Canucks.

Trevor Linden, in his new position as the Vancouver Canucks’ president of hockey operations, made the announcement as part of changes to the team which saw the removal of former president and general manager Mike Gillis last month.

Tortorella joined the Vancouver Canucks in June 2013 replacing head coach Alain Vigneault, who ironically went to fill Tortorella’s spot with the New York Rangers. Known for his abrupt attitude, the Boston-born coach only lasted one season that had the Canucks going 36-35-11 and missing the playoffs.

Overall, the team struggled during the 2013-14 season with many players registering fewer points and goals than in previous seasons. Captain Henrik Sedin amassed the most points, with 11 goals and 39 assists.

No names for replacement coaching staff have been made available.
