Vancouver’s Rio Theatre has lined up three showings of Mamoru Hosoda’s latest animated film: The Boy and the Beast.

Abandoned and left wandering the streets of Shibuya, Kyuta happens upon another world filled with creatures and encounters the fearsome Kumatetsu. As a warrior, Kumatetsu is searching for a worthy apprentice to partner with him and Kyuta appears to fit the description. Their bonds grow, undeterred by the differences Kyuta and Kumatetsu share, evolve into a relationship neither of them thought would happen. Though a force far stronger than anything ever seen before threatens to destroy both worlds, man and beast must unite together to save everything they’ve built.

There are three dates so far, with a potential for more based on demand. Advance tickets are available for $10 online or for $12 at the door. The film will be shown in Japanese with English subtitles.
