In what seems like downsizing, the Vancouver Giants confirmed Tuesday that the team is leaving the Pacific Coliseum for the Langley Events Centre. The WHL team will play the 2016-17 season at the new facility.

The 5,276 seat Langley Events Centre, situated at 7888 200 Street, Langley, is a considerably smaller venue than the aging Pacific Coliseum. The 15,713 seat Coliseum was home to the Giants since their inception to the league in 2001.

Giants owner Ron Toigo stated that “This is a decision that allows us to relocate to an area where a very high percentage of our core demographic live.” and “…allows us to have a home venue whose size will enable us to sell out games, create a fun game night atmosphere and give the team some real home ice advantage.”

A name change is not in the plans of the team’s transition from Vancouver into Langley; they will still be called the Vancouver Giants.
