Byleth from Fire Emblem revealed as latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter

During this morning’s Super Smash Bros. Direct video, Masahiro Sakurai revealed the level of secrecy undertaken to protect the identity of the latest fighter to join the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. Byleth, from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, is the newest playable character for Nintendo’s venerable fighting game on the Switch.

The professor of Garreg Mach Monastery joins seven other characters from the Fire Emblem franchise: Marth, Roy, Ike, Lucina, Robin, Corrin and Chrom. Accompanying Byleth is the aforementioned monastery which is the fighter’s home stage. As a ranged fighter, Byleth wields a sword, axe, lance and bow which create for interesting offense and defense manoeuvres. Fear not, Edelgard, Claude and Dimitri will make appearances in the Garreg Mach Monastery.

Also shown were new outfits for Mii Fighters from series Cuphead, Rabbids, Assassin’s Creed, and Mega Man. The Cuphead costume also comes with the song Floral Fury which played during the battle with Cagney Carnation.

Byleth, the Garreg Mach Monastery stage, as well as the Mii Fighter outfits become available on Tuesday, January 28th, 2020.

Six more fighters are coming as part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2; they will be announced at later dates.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available only on the Nintendo Switch.
