Announced during Thursday’s Pokémon Direct live-stream, the Nintendo Switch titles Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are getting additional content digitally as Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass and Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass. This is a departure from when Game Freak released additional content as individual games (e.g. Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon with Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon).

Included in the DLC are 200 existing Pokémon from the previous generations to the Galar Pokédex. Two new storylines build on the Galar region with Part 1 The Isle of Armor coming in June 2020, followed by Part 2 The Crown Tundra in Fall 2020. As Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield feature Pokémon and and Gym Leaders unique to each title, new rivals will follow suit: poison-type Klara in Pokémon Sword, while psychic-type Avery appears in Pokémon Shield.

Kubfu is the fighting-type legendary Pokémon for the The Isle of Armor; Kubfu’s evolution, Urshifu, will be able to Gigantamax. For The Crown Tundra, the legendary Pokémon is the psychic- and grass-type Calyrex.

Additionally, there’s new clothing and accessory styles, plus new upgrade options for the Rotom Bike.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield were released on November 15th, 2019.
