On Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020, BC Ferries will begin sailing again between Horseshoe Bay (pictured above) in West Vancouver and Departure Bay in Nanaimo with only four trips per day. Service was suspended on April 3rd, 2020 citing decreased demand.

The revised schedule for this route between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island are as follows:

Leaves Horseshoe Bay:

  • 8:30 am
  • 12:30 pm
  • 2:50 pm
  • 6:50 pm

Leaves Departure Bay:

  • 10:30 am
  • 12:50 pm
  • 2:30 pm
  • 4:50 pm

Additionally, vessels will only operate at half capacity to maximize physical distancing in accordance with recommendations from Transport Canada. Onboard services including the cafeteria, gift shop, play areas, and vending machines remain closed. Passengers may stay in their vehicles, even on the enclosed lower vehicle decks.

Travellers are asked to arrive an hour before the posted sailing time to undergo screening by terminal staff. The company also suggests taking the Tsawwassen-Duke Point or Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay routes as alternatives to Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay.
