Square Enix confirmed today at Anime Expo Lite that their popular role-playing game The World Ends with You is getting the anime treatment. The World Ends with You: The Animation is expected to begin airing in 2021.

A teaser video was shown at the virtual convention’s panel, with a handful of the game’s staff in attendance, including the producer, director, character designer and music composer to introduce the new series.

Production is being done under Domerica and Shin-Ei Animation with Kazuya Ichikawa serving as director, Tetsuya Nomura and Gen Kobayashi handling character design and Takeharu Ishimoto as composer.

In addition to some of the staff, the original voice cast is returning to reprise their roles.

  • Kouki Uchiyama will voice Neku Sakuraba
  • Anna Hachimine will voice Shiki
  • Ryohei Kimura will voice Joshua
  • Subaru Kimura will voice Beat
  • Ayana Taketatsu will voice Rhyme

The World Ends with You was originally developed for the Nintendo DS, but has since been remastered for mobile devices and Nintendo Switch as The World Ends with You: Final Remix.
