Viz Media granted the wishes of anime fans in North and Latin America today with the announcement of their acquisition to the broadcast and merchandise rights of Genie Family 2020.

Genie Family originally aired in 1969 and this refresh series brings it into the modern day. Set in Tokyo, King Genie now has a daughter named Akubi who begins learning the ropes of being his successor and queen — the only catch is she must first study with regular humans.

However, Akubi finds herself getting guidance from Kantaro, the grandson of King Genie’s previous master. Kantaro, too, is learning as he’s still in elementary school! But that’s not all, as Akubi’s rambunctious younger brother has followed her to have his own fun at his sister’s expense!

Genie Family 2020 is under the direction of Atsushi Nigorikawa, with series composition done by Hiroko Kanasugi; the characters are designed by Shin Takemoto and Masatsune Noguchi; and music from Takamitsu Shimazaki, Hiroshi Sasaki, and Teppei Shimizu. Tatsunoko Production, known for its work on Speed Racer, Gotchaman, Casshan, Hurricane Polymar and Tekkaman, and Infini-T Force will handle the animation.

Japanese cast for Genie Family 2020 stars Koichi Yamashita as Hakushon, Sumire Morohoshi as Akubi, Daiki Yamashita as Puuta, and Miyuri Shimabukuro as Kantaro.

Genie Family 2020 will begin streaming this October on Crunchyroll.
