The temporary barriers dividing Stanley Park Drive between vehicles and cyclists are coming down on Saturday, September 26th, 2020 according to the Vancouver Park Board.

Since June 22nd, 2020, the roadway that encircles Stanley Park was reduced to one lane for cars and buses with the remaining lane for bicycles. The intent was to get more people into the park during the COVID-19 pandemic and to promote physical distancing by moving the bikes to the roadway and off the seawall which was limited to pedestrians only.

The restrictions was a cause for concern with many of the businesses within the park, claiming the reduced traffic impacted the amount of customers coming to visit as well as delays with the single lane for cars being caught behind the slower moving horse-drawn carriages.

Stanley Park will close at 8:00 pm on Friday, September 25th, 2020 to permit removal of cones and signage. However, a section of Stanley Park Drive will remain as-is on the south-western corner by Second Beach, Ceperley Meadow and English Bay. Access to the park is still preferred from the entrances on the Stanley Park Causeway.
