Some 30 years after its Japan-only release, Nintendo is translating into English the first Fire Emblem title, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, and porting it to the Nintendo Switch console for December.
As Prince Marth, the player must amass an army crossing the Kingdom of Archanea and retrieve the legendary sword Falchion to save the continent from the Shadow Dragon. The 8-bit classic is also updated to include rewind and fast-forward functions as well as save states.
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light was launched in Japan in April 1990 on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), also known as the Famicom. North American fans of Fire Emblem were first introduced to Marth in Super Smash Bros. Melee, where him and Roy appeared as hidden characters.
Available on the Nintendo eShop December 4th, 2020, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light is priced at $5.99 USD, but this title is only around for a limited time, disappearing on March 31st, 2021.
To celebrate the Fire Emblem franchise’s 30th anniversary, select retailers (not yet revealed) will carry a special edition version of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light which includes a replica NES box and cartridge with a protective sleeve.
