During The Game Awards on Thursday, December 10th, Nintendo dropped a short trailer revealing the villainous Sephiroth from Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy VII as the next fighter joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster.

The feared One-Winged Angel descends into Nintendo’s all star brawler as a downloadable character which is expected to become available at a later date. Sephiroth’s appearance is based on that in the 2005 animated film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children; the video used an update quote of his from the flick: “Now, I shall give Smash despair.”

Based on the trailer, it appears that Sephiroth’s ultimate smash, the devastating summon Supernova, is included and possible that the song from the final battle, “One-Winged Angel”, will accompany him in the DLC. Wielding the blade Masamune, this SOLDIER first class will prove a formidable foe with extended reach to inflict serious damage on opposing players.

Masahiro Sakurai, the director of Super Smash bros. Ultimate is set to delve deeper into Cloud’s nemesis with a video that will air Thursday, December 17th, 2020 at 2:00 pm PST (5:00 pm EST).

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released for Nintendo Switch on December 7th, 2018.
