Back in July of 2001, things were different. Mobile phones that we consider essential today didn’t exist and Monthly Shonen Gangan printed the opening chapter to a new manga called Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa. Now, 20 years on, mobile devices are portable computers and to celebrate this anniversary of this legendary story, Fullmetal Alchemist is getting a mobile game.

Details of the tentatively titled Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile are sparse, except that more information should come throughout the year. A brief video teasing this was uploaded to Square Enix’s YouTube channel and shared on the Funimation Blog. Square Enix publishes the Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine in which Fullmetal Alchemist first appeared.

Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile will be available on both Android and Apple iOS devices according to the official website.

Additional events are also being planned to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Fullmetal Alchemist including an art exhibition in Tokyo, a special book filled with the history of the series, and an announcement of a new manga that Hiromu Arakawa is working on.

The Fullmetal Alchemist manga has since been adapted into two anime series, three films (two animated and one live-action), and multiple video games for the PlayStation 2, Wii, PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS systems.
