A slice of European tradition is back to light up those darkening skies with all things Christmas as the Vancouver Christmas Market returns to Jack Poole Plaza west of the Vancouver Convention Centre starting Saturday November 13th, 2021.

Inspired by the German Christkindlmarkt, the Vancouver version has operated for over a decade with small wooden huts offering up old world treats, ornaments, and goodies next to local creations: ceramic beer steins from Germany, local artisan soaps, alpaca wool apparel, regional and international wines, handmade Christmas decorations, giant turkey legs, kitchen gadgets, steaming bowls of goulash, plates of schnitzel, loaves of stollen, mugs of mulled wine, and so much more. Käthe Wohlfahrt, the storied German company that sells Christmas ornaments and other baubles, isn’t on the list of vendors according to both the market’s and company’s web sites.

The market is a family affair with plenty of fun activities including a carousel, a walk-in Christmas tree, expanded lounge and photographs with the life-sized gingerbread mascots Holly and Jolly.

To comply with provincial health orders, all attendees must be fully vaccinated and present their vaccine passport and government-issued photo identification at entry. Guests are asked to follow social distance guidelines and the vendors will offer take out options for those who may wish to enjoy their purchases at home.

Ticket sales are based by date and time, but once inside, guests can stay as long as they like. Single-day tickets do not permit in-and-out privileges, but those with season’s passes can do so freely. Prices range from $17.00 at the gate for adults, with tickets youth aged seven thru 17 priced at $10.00 and seniors at $14.00. Early bird tickets go for $9.00; pre-sale prices are lower, but only until October 31st. A season’s pass will set you back $25.00. All tickets are available in person or online.

The last day of the Vancouver Christmas Market is Friday, December 24th, 2021.

Editor’s note: An earlier version stated the end date as Friday, December 14th, 2021, which was incorrect.
