American voice actor Chris Ayres passed away on Monday, October 18th, 2021 according to a social media post made by his girlfriend Krystal LaPorte.

Chris, pictured above in 2010 at Realmscon in Corpus Christi, Texas, was best known as the English voice of the villain Freiza in the Dragon Ball series; he also starred numerous anime series from background to leading roles in Black Butler, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Golgo 13, Sengoku Basara, and Akame ga Kill.

Chris was also a staple at anime conventions across the United States, hosting panels on voice acting and cosplay, and was rarely seen without his pop-filled “giant sippy cup of doom”. His brother Greg, also a fellow voice actor, would usually appear alongside him at events.

Chris was 56 years old.
