After skipping last year, the brilliant Festival of Lights is back to brighten the VanDusen Botanical Gardens in Vancouver, bringing the holiday spirit much needed to our city.

Over a million Christmas lights are strung up through the garden, where visitors can bask in the glow of many festive displays that adorn the rose garden and paths that intertwine the lake and floral features in VanDusen.

A number of changes were made for the 2021 season — tickets are only available online; there’s no on-site admission sales. Visitors aged 12 and over must provide proof they are fully vaccinated and masks are required in all indoor spaces. Also absent this year is the carousel.

The Festival of Lights runs November 26th, 2021 through January 3rd, 2022, but are closed on December 25th, 2021 — Christmas Day. As the lights are best experienced in the dark, the event is only open between 4:00 PM and 9:30 PM PST. As the weather on the west coast can change at a moments notice, visitors are asked to dress accordingly for rain or snow.

Parking at VanDusen Botanical Gardens is limited, but transit is always an option — with the 17 bus on Oak Street or a short walk north from the 41 bus on 41st Avenue.
