TransLink to accept tap fares with debit cards in 2022

TransLink is working with Interac Corp., and Cubic Transportation Systems with an upgrade to the fare system so customers can use their tap-enabled debit cards as a method of payment at stations and on buses

According to a press release from TransLink, the work between Interac Corp., which provides interbank debit processing, and Cubic Transportation, which created the contactless fare system, is being rolled out to some 5,000 point-of-contact readers across the system by the end of 2022. This will make TransLink the first transit agency in Canada to accept contactless debit transactions to board a SkyTrain, bus or SeaBus.

Currently, customers can pay for a ride on TransLink services using a Compass Card, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit card, or Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay Wallet on their mobile device.

TransLink recommends that customers remove the card they intend to pay with from their wallet to reduce the chance of inadvertently paying with the wrong card.
