Kingdom Hearts III keeps getting more beautiful with a new trailer

In the days leading up to E3, Square Enix has tossed us yet another tantalizing teaser of a video for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III. This latest clip shows just how much work the developers are squeezing into this title; another video is expected on July 15th, 2017 during D23 Expo 2017, including a peek at a new world.

Sora dives into Olympus from the movie Hercules and instantly engages swarms of heartless, being able to lock on to multiple enemies and unleash a devastating attack. The battle with Lythos, the colossal rock titan, takes place under pouring rain where the water flows down the sheer cliffs akin to tears of joy. The graphics have gotten smoother, looking almost cinematic where the characters in the cut scenes are in focus while the backgrounds are softened. The user interface remains the same as in previous games, utilizing minimalism styles to focus on the action.

Unsurprisingly, a release date for Kingdom Hearts III was not mentioned in the video.

New Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III teaser from Jump Festa 2015

Square Enix has uploaded yet another video of the two Kingdom Hearts titles coming to the PlayStation 4 in the near future: Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III.

The five-and-a-half minute teaser shown at Jump Festa 2015 gives a closer look at the collection of games and cinematics that make up Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue — a remastered version of the Nintendo 3DS title Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, a visual story called Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ Back Cover and a short adventure from Aqua’s view in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep–A Fragmentary Passage–.

Additional footage from Kingdom Hearts III includes a closer look at world from the Disney feature film Tangled, as well as battles around Twilight Town. A new attack, Attraction Flow, makes its debut in helping Sora deal with hordes of enemies. Sora can lock on to numerous targets and leap into action with the keyblade. With Shooting Ride, Sora can hop into a cart with a mounted gun and don a visor with a unique heads-up display to take on multiple foes at once.

Both Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III are still being worked on, but only the former has a projected release date sometime in 2016.

Big Hero 6 to become playable level in upcoming Kingdom Hearts III game

A new world for the in progress Kingdom Hearts III has been revealed this past Sunday at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. In a video posted to YouTube, Roy Conli, producer for Walt Disney Animation Studios, introduced the city of San Fransokyo from the movie Big Hero 6 as a playable level.

Concept artwork from the game portrays Sora riding an armoured Baymax fighting an evil version of the healthcare robot over the skies of the metropolis. No further details on the level or characters were mentioned.

D23 Expo is a biennial event for the Walt Disney Company to give fans an update on the many projects the media giant is working on; everything from movies and television and video games to its theme parks and attractions. D23 Expo was held August 14th through 16th, 2015.

Work on Kingdom Hearts III is still underway; no release date was mentioned and will be available on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.

Still no Kingdom Hearts III launch date

Following the announcement of Kingdom Hearts III, there has been a lot of speculation as to when the Disney and Square Enix title would be ready.

In an interview between Square Enix executive Shinji Hashimoto and IGN last September, there was the thought that the game could launch as early as 2015. Designer Tetsuya Nomura has been involved with both Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, but considering that both are highly anticipated titles, Square Enix is going to pull out all the stops to ensure they are perfect before release.

However, that didn’t stop online giant Amazon from posting a tentative release date of December 31st, 2015 on their Kingdom Hearts III product page. It’s possible someone in Amazon’s merchandising team knows something the rest of us don’t.

Kingdom Hearts III will be available on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

New Kingdom Hearts III clip

D23 Expo Japan is underway and Square Enix has capitalized on this event to unveil a 96 second clip of the in-progress Kingdom Hearts III.

While there is still a long way to go before the game hits the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, this video provides a glimpse into what we can expect. Sora now wields a transforming keyblade which can fire projectiles and can also summon rides from Disney Parks — notably the Pirate Ship and the Big Magic Mountain Railway. Additionally, Sora can even use these summons as a platform to launch additional attacks on bosses. As this only a demonstration, expect the techniques, visuals and functionality to change as Kingdom Hearts III is still early in development.

Waiting for Kingdom Hearts III? Grab a chair…

Remember that demo video of Kingdom Hearts III from E3 this year? How smooth the graphics looked and that the drool from all the fans eager to start playing this could easily fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool? Turn the faucets off because Sora won’t be loaded onto your PlayStation 4 (or Xbox One) any time soon.

In an interview with IGN, Shinji Hashimoto, the producer for the Kingdom Hearts series, explained that director Tetsuya Nomura is spreading his time between Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV. Rather than release a rushed product, Square Enix is taking its time in making sure that two of its biggest upcoming titles are polished and ready for the masses.

As a result, both games won’t be available any time soon; estimates place Final Fantasy XV in 2014 followed by Kingdom Hearts III in 2015. Of course, don’t treat these as solid dates. You can watch the E3 trailer on repeat in the meantime.

Famitsu interviews Tetsuya Nomura over Kingdom Hearts III

In a recent magazine interview with Famitsu, Kingdom Hearts III Director Tetsuya Nomura has divulged more juicy details of the upcoming game. While while key points were not revealed, the storyline continues right after Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and will be the last to feature Xehanort as the protagonist. New worlds are being developed and will use “Kingdom Shaders” to bring a unique and true Disney visual experience to each level. Rumours of Riku and Kairi becoming playable characters in addition to Sora, Donald and Goofy have spread online, but Nomura has not confirmed this.

As work on Kingdom Hearts III advances, further information will be unveiled at Tokyo Game Show 2013 this September and Japan D23 in October 2013. The game will be available for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

Kingdom Hearts III trailer

It’s official — Kingdom Hearts III is coming to the PlayStation 4, and in a surprising move, to the recently announced Xbox One console.

A brief trailer advertised at Sony’s E3 press conference shows the spikey-haired hero Sora on both the Destiny Islands and in Twilight Town versus a storm of Heartless wielding a different themed keyblade that isn’t the traditional Kingdom Key. The upgraded graphics in the video gives Sora a more refined look while utilizing some cel-shaded effects to preserve some of the animated qualities form the series. The menus and health icons retain their positions on the bottom corners of the screen and with the same data in the previous two games (Goofy and Donald included). As this is only intended to whet our appetites, expect many more changes to come before the final release.

No release date for Kingdom Hearts III was made available at press time.
