Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo in theatres January 2014

It’s finally coming to North America! The third movie of the Evangelion reboot, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, will be screened in theatres across Canada and the United States January 2014 in English with select locations showing the movie in Japanese with English subtitles.

Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo picks up where Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance left off. Eva pilot Shinji Ikari has awoken some fourteen years following the the Third Impact. While his appearance hasn’t changed, the rest of the world has, with humanity struggling to survive. Forming a relationship with Kaworu whom he encounters at NERV’s base of operations, Shinji’s mental state begins to disintegrates and threatens the stability of life at a whole.

First shown in Japan in November 2012, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo has amassed more than 5 billion Yen. Directed by Hideaki Anno, the latest in the Evangelion movie saga, revisits the popular Neon Genesis Evangelion science-fiction anime series from the mid-1990s.

Check your local theatre listings for showtimes.

Evangelion skateboards

Adding to the growing list of merchandise from the reboot of the Neon Genesis Evangelion series, comes two new skateboard decks. A collaboration with FTC Tokyo, intheyellow and RADIO EVA, the decks are based on the first two movies: Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone and Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance.

The designs are simple and crisp; outlines of the Eva units — almost something that you would want displayed indoors rather than the streets. The top side of the Evangelion: 1.0 board is painted red with the movie logo, while the bottom features Eva Unit 01 posing with an assault rifle over a white background. The same goes for the Evangelion: 2.0 deck; instead it’s painted orange on the top with a greyish illustration of Rei Ayanami up against Eva Unit 01 over a white background underneath. As these are the decks only, no additional hardware is included.

Retail price of the decks are an astounding ¥13,440 JPY (or approximately $151.00 CAD). If you’re still interested, they can purchased at FTC Tokyo’s store in Shibuya or online. Alternatively, you can grab some t-shirts with the same images if you’re not in the market for a new skateboard.

The Evangelion Cafe

In anticipation of the next Neon Genesis Evangelion movie, the Animate Cafe in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district will be serving up Evangelion-themed food for the month of November as the aptly titled Evangelion Cafe.

The menu includes a variety of drinks and snacks designed with the hit anime series in mind. Take the latte that is cleverly poured to look like the fourth angel. Or the parfait stylized like the Unit 01 with sweet potato and green tea ice cream. Even a tall glass of Misato Katsuragi’s beer is available, complete with a side of peanuts.

Postcards featuring a number of the characters in waitstaff uniforms will be handed out along with unique coasters decorated with an angel and the Evangelion Cafe logo. Additional merchandise and promotional items will be available for purchase in the cafe’s store.

A lottery system will be used when the cafe gets too busy during peak hours. More information is available on the cafe’s web site.

This limited time collaboration will be available from Thursday, November 1st, 2012 until Friday, November 30th, 2012. Similar events have occurred for the Naruto and Fullmetal Alchemist movies.

Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo arrives in Japanese theatres on Saturday, November 17th, 2012.

Anime Footwear

Most anime series have loads of merchandise featuring images of the main characters or logos and replicas of items used in those series. There’s a lot of apparel from some of the more popular series; Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Bleach, to name a few. Among the t-shirts, hats and hoodies are the elusive pairs of shoes. While Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! have sneakers tailored towards younger kids, UK based T.U.K. made skate shoes for Fullmetal Alchemist and Bleach along with Fullmetal Alchemist slip-ons. Nike and Bandai teamed up as well to create a limited edition pair of runners based on Naruto for the Japanese youth market.
