Canada showcased in anime short by staff who worked on film Your Name

If you’ve ever wondered what Canada would like if it were made into an anime, this would be it. The production staff behind the animated film Your Name created a 30 second short of winter in Canada for a promotional tourism campaign in Japan (in Japanese).

The video includes scenes in the Rocky Mountains at Jasper National Park and Banff National Park, two locations in Vancouver: Granville Island Public Market and the Drop sculpture at the Vancouver Convention Centre, Niagara Falls, along with another two stops in Toronto at Nathan Phillips Square and Toronto Harbour. If you look closely, you can see the signs for JJ Bean and Duso’s Italia in the Granville Island scene; a testament to the artistic detail that went into this video.

The contest is only open to Japanese citizens and closes Thursday, November 30th, 2017.

Miku Expo 2016 to tour seven cities across North America

Hatsune Miku, the virtual turquoise-pigtail singer from Japan, will be performing in concert as part of Miku Expo which will travel through Canada, the United States and Mexico in 2016.

Miku, a sixteen year-old computer-generated vocal synthesizer created by Crypton Future Media, has generated a massive following not only in her native Japan, but around the world. While she is not “human”, a creative graphical setup allows Miku to be projected in a 3D environment to sing and interact with the crowd wherever she goes. Miku has stood on stage with Lady Gaga and Pharrell Williams and even guest-starred on television with David Letterman!

Nintendo to host Zelda parties in Toronto and Montreal

In anticipation of the upcoming launch of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo is hosting celebrations in Toronto and Montreal this weekend.

Fans will be given an opportunity to play the latest title in the Zelda series, watch an artist decorate a wall with art from the game, and take pictures with acclaimed Link cosplayer, Li Kovacs, better known as Pikmin Link. Those who show up in costume from their favourite Zelda game will be able to collect neat prizes.

The first event will be in Toronto, Ontario at the The Great Hall, 1087 Queen Street West on Saturday, November 16th, 2013 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm EST.

The second event will be in Montreal, Quebec at the Square de l’église St-James, 463 Sainte-Catherine Ouest on Sunday, November 17th, 2013 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm EST.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will be available for purchase on Friday, November 22nd, 2013.
